CONTROVERSIAL, appealing design. Smartened-up interior. More room. As ever, outstanding performance. Is anybody listening? The new Magna and Verada range, and in particular the prestige sports tourer that in a sense bridges both brands, should be generating more interest among consumers than it appears to have done so thus far. Now a permanent model, Verada GTVi excels on the road and has some exclusive features thrown in. But it needs more of them to really come into its own.

Family Tree: VeradaPERHAPS the earliest direct predecessor to the sports-luxury Verada GTVi tested here is the KJ Verada GTV, released in July, 2002. It featured the same 163kW 3.5-litre V6 that continues today, and was discontinued in March, 2003 to make way for the facelifted and renamed KJ Series II GTVi, which sold between March and May, 2003. It was discontinued after just three months to make way for the facelifted TL/KL Magna/Verada that went on sale in June, 2003.
