Super TestCar reviews - Suzuki - Swift - SF rangeSuzuki modelsUsed Rivals11 Jul 2003 DAIHATSU CHARADE 5D HATCHBACK (1988-1994) SMOOTH, free revving, 66kW 1.3-litre, 16-valve, four-cylinder engine. Boxy but distinctive styling, comparable space to Swift, safe but mundane handling. Very reliable, economical, spares reasonably priced. MAZDA 121 4D SEDAN (1990-1997) FOUR-door sedan with spacious interior. The 1.3-litre, 16-valve engine produces only 54kW but excellent mid-range torque gives good overtaking ability. Excellent handling. Lacked power steering up to July, 1991. HYUNDAI EXCEL 5D HATCHBACK (1986-1994) FUEL-injected, 1.5-litre engine from 1990 with four-speed auto or five-speed manual. Solid, long lasting feel but lacks sophistication. A bigger car than Swift. Supple ride but rolls in corners. HOLDEN BARINA 3D HATCHBACK (1992-1994) BASICALLY a Swift with Holden badges and different specifications but with the 1.3-litre, four cylinder engine which was only available in the less popular sedan version of the Swift.
