Super TestCar reviews - Toyota - Echo - Sportivo 5-dr hatchToyota modelsResearch Toyota OverviewIt's hard to think of the Toyota Echo as a hot-hatch, but the Sportivo is close10 Aug 2001 UNDER the Sportivo banner, Echo is sure to appeal to image-conscious compact hatch buyers who don't mind paying handsomely for the privilege of a smooth, quiet, lusty 1.5-litre engine AND a wonderfully packaged interior. All the requisite body accessories and interior bits and bobs are there to set the sports tone - sans white-faced instrument gauges - however, Echo trademarks such as the unique dash design and gymnastic rear seat remain defining traits. Launched in March 2001 alongside the limited-edition turbocharged Sportivo Corolla, the Echo Sportivo is available in both three and five-door body styles, but the bottom line is the same: a wonderful hatch kneecapped by a cruel sticker price.
