Super TestCar reviews - Volkswagen - Polo - rangeVolkswagen modelsUsed Rivals23 Jul 2003 PEUGEOT 306 3D HATCHBACK (1997-2001) THE updated 306 combines striking looks, an airy interior and plenty of space with superb handling, grip, steering and ride qualities, better build and trim quality, more safety and a long features list. Roomy, refined and reliable. Best all-rounder. SEAT IBIZA 3D HATCHBACK (1995-1997) A POLO with fewer doors but more of everything else. The 2.0- litre Golf engine and worked suspension mean the GTI is a real hot hatch, with great handling and grip. A long wheelbase liberates interior space. The Polo cabin has more features, better seats but less taste. HONDA CIVIC 3D HATCHBACK (1995-2000) THE sober but intelligent choice with plenty of cabin space, a sweet, economical and zippy engine, sure-footed handling and a good ride. Add class-leading quality, resale value and reliability, and the Civic should make everyone's shortlist. CHRYSLER NEON 4D SEDAN (1996-1999) UNDER-RATED, the Neon shines with funky styling, plenty of space, a gutsy 2.0-litre engine, good handling and ride, lots of features and a big boot. The interior feels cheap and rear vision is poor but the Neon is proving tough and reliable.
