Renault updates Megane E-Tech electric SUV

Larger battery, 500km range, and fresh styling headline overhaul of French EV, in Aus H1 2027

24 Jun 2026

RENAULT has unveiled an updated Megane E-Tech, giving its battery-electric SUV a comprehensive mid-life refresh that brings revised styling, enhanced technology, and a larger battery offering up to 500km of driving range.

A Renault Australia spokesperson said the updated model is locked in for the Australian market next year.

“The Renault Megane E-Tech facelift is due in Australian showrooms in the first half of 2027. Prices and specifications will be announced closer to showroom arrivals,” the spokesperson said.

The French brand says the changes are aimed at reinforcing the Megane E-Tech’s position in the increasingly competitive compact EV segment, where it has attracted a younger customer base and a high proportion of first-time electric vehicle buyers.

More than two-thirds of Megane E-Tech customers are new to EV ownership, according to Renault.

The facelift introduces a redesigned front-end featuring a new gloss-black grille, revised Renault badging, and a distinctive lighting signature comprising eight diamond-shaped daytime running lights integrated into the bumper.

At the rear, the full-width light bar has been retained but gains a new three-dimensional appearance, while the vehicle itself is now 20mm taller to accommodate a larger battery pack.

Power comes from a 164kW wound-rotor synchronous motor producing 300Nm and paired with a new 67kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

Renault says the new battery employs an innovative cell-to-pack architecture that increases energy density and packaging efficiency while delivering a WLTP driving range of up to 500km.

DC fast-charging capability has also increased by 35kW to 165kW, reducing a 15 to 80 per cent recharge to around 24 minutes.

The Megane E-Tech continues to offer bidirectional charging functionality, including vehicle-to-load (V2L) facility capable of powering external devices up to 3700W, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology in selected markets.

Inside, Renault has streamlined the range to two grades – Techno and Esprit Alpine – with both variants receiving a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.0-inch multimedia touchscreen featuring the company’s OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in.

The system incorporates Google Maps navigation with EV route planning and over 100 downloadable applications via Google Play.

Renault has also confirmed Google Gemini artificial intelligence will replace Google Assistant in the future, allowing more natural voice interactions with the vehicle.

New features include facial recognition technology that automatically loads individual driver profiles, a Smart Mode drive setting that adapts vehicle responses according to driving style, and a wireless smartphone charger compatible with the Qi2 and MagSafe standards.

The updated Megane E-Tech also gains a One Pedal driving function, allowing drivers to bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal, complemented by four levels of regenerative braking selectable via steering-wheel paddles.

Safety technology has also been enhanced, with more than 30 driver assistance systems available, including upgraded adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, predictive eco-driving advice, and new Safety Coach and Safety Monitor functions that provide personalised feedback on driving behaviour.

The Techno grade is positioned as the core model and includes the full OpenR twin-screen system, heat pump, battery pre-conditioning, and 19-inch alloy wheels as standard.

The flagship Esprit Alpine adds unique exterior styling, 20-inch alloy wheels, power massage seats, a Harman/Kardon audio system, and the full suite of driver assistance technologies.

Built at Renault’s ElectriCity complex in Douai, France, the updated Megane E-Tech SUV is expected to continue playing a key role in the company’s electrification strategy, both abroad and closer to home.

The 2027 Renault Megane E-Tech will arrive in Australia during the first half of next year.
