Volkswagen goes driveaway on Golf

Driveaway pricing for current VW Golf range ahead of new-gen launch in late 2020

2 Jul 2019

BEFORE the launch of the eighth-generation Golf small car due locally in the fourth quarter of 2020, Volkswagen Group Australia has moved its entire Mark 7.5 line-up to driveaway pricing, kicking off at $24,990 for the six-speed manual Trendline 110TSI hatch.

Powered by a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Golf Trendline 110TSI is also equipped with 16-inch wheels, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, LED tail-lights and automatic headlights and wipers.

Safety gear runs the gamut from autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, seven airbags, cruise control, a reversing camera, driver fatigue warning and front and rear parking sensors.

The Trendline 110TSI grade can also be had with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for $26,990 and in auto-only wagon form for $29,990 that also adds black roof rails and a luggage partition net to the equipment list.

Stepping up to the exclusively automatic Comfortline 110TSI costs $29,990 for the hatch and $32,990 for the wagon, with gear bolstered by dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation, keyless entry, push-button start, 17-inch wheels, front comfort seats, chrome detailing and a 12V outlet in the boot.

Trendline and Comfortline customers will also have the option of adding a $1500 Driver Assistance Package that bundles in adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic-jam assist and more.

Pricing for the Highline 110TSI, meanwhile, is now set at $34,990 and $36,990 for the hatch and wagon respectively.

Extra gear on the Highline grade includes all the safety equipment featured in the Driver Assistance Package as well as leather-appointed upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, high-beam assist, a panoramic glass sunroof, front fog lights, LED headlights and a colour multi-function display.

Two options packs are available in the Highline grade, a $2300 Sound & Vision pack (also available to Comfortline buyers) that upgrades the infotainment system to a 9.2-inch unit and the speakers to a 400W premium audio set-up, and the $2500 R-Line pack which throws in 18-inch wheels, sports suspension, a body kit and unique interior touches.

Once again topping the non-performance Golf range is the $37,990 Alltrack 132TSI and $41,990 Alltrack 132TSI Premium, which are both underpinned by a 132kW/280Nm turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine, six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive (AWD).

Standard equipment for the off-road-focused, high-riding wagon largely mirrors the Comfortline grade, whereas the Alltrack 132TSI Premium gains all the goodies found in the Golf Highline variant.

Alltrack 132TSI buyers can also option the Driver Assistance Package for $1200 and the Sound & Vision Package for $2300, while the $2500 Sport Luxury Package that bundles 18-inch wheels, paddle-shifters and a power-operated glass sunroof that is exclusive to the Alltrack 132TSI Premium.

Volkswagen’s venerable Golf GTI, meanwhile, moves to $47,990, with the sole engine and transmission combination being a 180kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and seven-speed wet-clutch DSG.

Added extras over the Highline in the GTI grade includes a front differential, ventilated disc brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive chassis control and sportier styling.

Customers can also personalise their Golf GTI with a $2300 Sound & Style bundle that includes 19-inch Brescia wheel as well as the larger 9.2-inch infotainment unit and upgraded audio system, and $3900 Luxury pack that throws in Vienna leather upholstery, heated front seats and a power-operated glass sunroof.

Finally, the hardcore R tops the Golf range and is priced at $54,990 and $57,990 for the hatch and wagon body styles respectively.

On top of the GTI specifications, the R is headlined by a 213kW/380Nm motor, 4Motion AWD, a leather interior, heated front pews, 19-inch Spielberg wheels, a 9.2-inch infotainment system and dark-tinted rear and side windows.

Only two options are available on the Golf R, including the $1000 premium audio system and $1900 glass sunroof.
