Volkswagen Multivan Black Edition checks in
Unique Multivan Black Edition limited to 230 units, priced at $63,990 driveaway

VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has released local specifications for its limited-run Multivan Black Edition, offering a driveaway pricetag of $63,990, with just 230 examples available.
For perspective, the current Multivan line-up kicks off at $53,590 before on-road costs for the entry-spec TDI340 Comfortline upon which the Black Edition is based, up to $84,490 for the range-topping TDI450 Executive LWB (long wheelbase).
The seven-seater carries over the 103kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, sending driven to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Combined fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 litre per 100 kilometres.
The Black Edition rides on suspension lowered by 20mm, with reinforced anti-roll bars and unique tuning for the shock absorbers.
A number of accessories are included like a tablet holder for the rear seats, a bicycle tailgate carrier capable of carrying four bikes, a range of luggage compartment trays, roof bars with a surfboard carrier, rubber floor mats and a tow bar kit.
The vehicle is also distinguished by a Halifax Maple wood-look floor, 18-inch alloys, gloss black roof and b-pillars, exclusive cloth upholstery with contrast-coloured seams, black-trimmed turn signals and ‘Edition’ stickers on the side sills.
Colour choices include Cherry Red and Candy White, while optional metallic Acapulco Blue, Tumeric Yellow, Reflex Silver and Indium Grey add $1720 to the pricetag.
When Volkswagen gave GoAuto a sneak peak of the special-edition people mover last month, VGA director of commercial vehicles Ryan Davies said the decision to import the Black Edition was to garner interest in the T6 Multivan as it enters run-out.
“So Multivan Black is a limited edition, we’ll go into a run-out phase with the T6 to keep the product in people’s mind,” he said.
“Doing something a little bit different will provide something for our customers which isn’t just a plain white box, so-to-speak.”
Volkswagen’s local wing sold 1095 Multivan units in 2018 for a 1.8 per cent lift year-to-year, making it the third most popular model in the sub-$60,000 people-mover segment behind the Honda Odyssey (1895) and Kia Carnival (6610).
