More tech, higher price for Volkswagen T-Cross

Volkswagen is set to update the T-Cross SUV from July, adding new looks and more equipment

17 Jun 2024

VOLKSWAGEN will introduce its updated T-Cross into local showrooms from next month, the light-segment SUV scoring raft of equipment upgrades and freshened looks, but with price rises of up to $4000.

As reported by GoAuto in April, the facelifted T-Cross range is the recipient of an updated exterior design, new-look dashboard with all-new instrumentation and infotainment screens, enhanced soft-touch materials, and Volkswagen’s latest electronic safety systems.

For the entry-grade T-Cross Life (from $33,990 plus on-road costs), we now find as standard equipment additions including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, 8.0-inch digital instrumentation, lane centring, LED headlights, rear cross-traffic alert, and a wireless device charging pad.

The model also picks up 16-inch alloy wheels, DAB+ digital radio, a leather-clad steering wheel with paddle shifters, power folding door mirrors, and synthetic leather upholstery.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, park assist, side assist, travel assist, and a reversing camera.

The mid-tier T-Cross Style (from $37,490 + ORC) now adds 17-inch alloys, a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, IQ.Matrix LED headlights, illuminated grille strip (LED), LED ambient cabin lighting, native sat nav, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as part of the standard offering.

Finally, the T-Cross R-Line (from $40,990 + ORC) becomes a standalone variant, having previously been offered only as part of an option package.

Highlights of the variant include 18-inch alloy wheels, sports body kit, R-Line interior, rear privacy glass, and a premium Beats audio system.

Optionally, the T-Cross is available with premium paint ($600) on Life and Style grades, and exclusive Kings Red metallic paint ($900) on the R-Line variant.

All 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross grades remain powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque. The engine is paired exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.

The Volkswagen T-Cross competes against nine other models in the Light SUV segment. It currently ranks in eighth place with year-to-date sales of just 477 units.

To the end of May, the Light SUV segment is dominated by the Mazda CX-3 (with sales of 6939 units) ahead of the Suzuki Jimny (3915), Toyota Yaris Cross (3176), Hyundai Venue (2678), Kia Stonic (2598), Nissan Juke (1045), Suzuki Ignis (881), and Ford Puma.

The segment is rounded out with the Renault Captur, with 127 unit sales.
