The ZF Fairlane was the long-wheelbase (LWB) version of the XA Falcon, the first all-Australian Ford.

The curvier, more compact-looking body and all-new, more spacious interior sat on the carryover platform and driveline – although the V8s gained more power (180 and 194kW in the 4.9L and 5.8L V8s respectively).

That meant the big Fords retained leaf-spring rear suspension when Holden switched to coil springs.

Safety and refinement improved, with high-back seats, front-wheel disc brakes, rear seatbelts, and increased dash padding.

Critics panned the Fairlane’s visual similarity to its smaller brother. Power windows became an option.

17,306 ZFs were built.
