Launched in Europe in 1996, the original SLK roadster arrived in Australia in February 1997.
Initially available in 142kW/280Nm supercharged 2.2-litre SLK320 Kompressor guise for $98,500, the SLK range grew with a 100kW/190Nm 2.0-litre SLK200 ($87,300) in November 1997.
A facelifted SLK range in July 2000 comprised a 120kW/230Nm supercharged 2.0-litre SLK200 Kompressor ($86,600), the 145kW/280Nm SLK320 Kompressor and the V6-powered 160kW/310Nm SLK320.
The range-topping SLK32 AMG arrived here in September 2001, priced at $154,400.
