Again based on a corresponding Opel (the Omega), the third-generation VT model was the biggest, and most successful Commodore to date.
This version easily outsold its Ford rival, as buyers responded to the neat European styling and pleasant interior. An all-new cabin featured improved ergonomics, more space and better quality.
The VT also proved popular as an export, particularly to the United Arab Emirates.
Holden also implemented plenty of improvements underneath. The previously optional independent rear suspension was made standard across the range, replacing the old coil sprung live-axle unit that dated back to the 1978 VB.
A nicely integrated body kit now defines the VT SS, which becomes the final Holden to use the Aussie-made 179kW 5.0-litre V8.
