AE95 Corolla 4WD Wagon

Fully imported from Japan, the AE95 Corolla XL wagon with full-time 4WD was in fact the next generation AE92-series Corolla available almost 18 months ahead of its locally produced sedan and hatchback cousins.

Sold in base XL and well-equipped SR5 guises (until the CSi replaced the latter in mid-’92), the Corolla 4WD wagon was pitched as a replacement for the unloved Tercel.

A new 76kW 1.6-litre fuel-injected 4A-FE engine – mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox – also previewed the next generation of twin-cam multi-valve motors that have since become a Corolla mainstay.
