Toyota CorollaKE30 Corolla1 Nov 1974 The Mk3 Corolla went from strength to strength. In all, over 4.5 million units were made. Yet another bigger body (in sedan, coupe, wagon and panel van guises) rendered the 1.2 3K four-cylinder engine barely adequate performance wise, exacerbated when the short-lived KE30 two-door gave way to the even heavier four-door sedan from April ’75. The luxury CS models – with carpets, clock and reclining cloth seats – debuted in February ’76. In July ’76 new anti-pollution rules further curtailed the Corolla’s power output. The ungainly and unresponsive KE50 Corolla liftback from early ’77 to late ’79 shared the 3K drivetrain but no body or cabin components with the KE30 range. |
