BMW toned down the severity of the earlier E65/6 nose and tail with the Series II model launched in mid-’05.
It also took the opportunity to introduce new driver-assist technology, improved cabin ergonomics and revised trim.
But it was the V8 engines that came in for wholesale changes.
The 735i/735Li’s 3.6 unit gave way to the 740i/740Li’s 225kW/390Nm 4.0-litre update, while the 750i/750Li took over from the 4.4-litre 745i/745Li and featured a 270kW/490Nm 4.8-litre Valvetronic V8.
Only the 327kW/600Nm 760Li remained the same mechanically.
WITH a new 7 Series due in 2008, the current E65 model received its final upgrade in June 2007, including the addition of two new model variants.
As the names would suggest, the new 7 Series Executive is designed for comfort while the Sport edition is more dynamic.
The Executive package includes 19-inch wheels and a number of items from the Individual menu, including Alcantara headlining and rear parcel shelf, extended high-grade Merino leather upholstery and a wood-trimmed steering wheel.
Sport Edition features 20-inch Y-spoke alloys, anthracite roof lining, Merino leather upholstery, piano black interior features and includes the previously-available Sport package (suspension control and seats).
