Road TestCar reviews - Holden - Jackaroo - Monterey 5-dr wagonHolden modelsResearch Holden OverviewBy the early 2000s the 10 year-old Jackaroo was getting off the pace9 May 2001 THE Holden Jackaroo came of age when the current generation model was introduced in 1992. The first Jackaroos were less than notable for their off-road ability and were nothing special on the road, although to many people they made sense as a relatively inexpensive, relatively capacious station wagon. Today, the Jackaroo stands out among its peers for excellent on-road performance backed by real off-road capability. The former was improved on Monterey models in 1998 with the introduction of an on-tarmac 4WD system to keep pace with its rivals, as well as a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 engine.
