Features of the engine include infinitely variable valve timing, sequential fuel injection, an electronic throttle, stainless steel exhaust headers, direct ignition, a knock control system and multiplex diagnostics. The engine develops 157kW at 5800rpm and 288Nm at 3800rpm, enabling the car to reach 100km/h from rest in 8.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 205km/h. The IS300 also qualifies as a Low Emissions Vehicle, while official fuel consumption figures show a return of 10.5L/100km on the theoretical city cycle and 8.0L/100km on the highway.
