Super TestCar reviews - Mini - Paceman - JCWMini modelsOverviewWe didn’t know this niche existed, but the JCW Paceman banks on you disagreeing19 Jul 2013 AND then there were seven. We say this not in the context of a dwindling list, but rather a growing one. The subject is Mini, and more specifically, its John Cooper Works sports range. The latest addition to the line-up is the Paceman, a high-riding, chopped-roof two-door SUV/coupe/hatch with a potent turbo donk and all-wheel-drive grip. The immediate question is why? Well, it appears Mini’s retort is a glib ‘why not?’. This is a company that has expanded under its BMW stewardship by filling holes in the market few others would consider. To paraphrase the late Steve Jobs, sometimes you have to tell people what they want, rather than ask them. We won’t pretend we’re not just a touch confused, because it’s difficult to approach a review of the JCW Paceman with standard logic. If this car proves anything, it’s that Mini doesn’t follow it anyway. So, is this Paceman JCW the answer to an unasked question, or a niche too far even for a brand that thrives on them? Can’t it be both? Click here for the full review...
