The 406 uses Peugeot's new electronic brake force distribution system (EBFD). The braking system has a torque split feature to regulate brake force at each rear wheel to assist stability when braking on a bend. The Bosch anti-lock uses a 48-tooth phonic disc on each wheel as part of the system to read wheel rotation (the Bosch 5.0 anti-lock system used 29-tooth phonic discs). The system works through an aluminium regulator unit and a hybrid computer works in with two Intel micro-processors to control it.
