Super TestCar reviews - Toyota - Camry - Vienta Executive sedanToyota modelsUsed Rivals1 Aug 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA 4D SEDAN (1990-1993) THE Maxima was popular overseas but this model did not take off in Australia. It has similar interior space to the Camry and is well equipped. The M is powered by a smooth 3.0-litre, 122kW V6 coupled to a four-speed automatic. Ride quality is good with typical front-wheel drive handling. MITSUBISHI TR MAGNA 4D SEDAN (1991-1994) THE Magna has similar interior space and equipment to the Camry. The 3.0-litre V6 is smooth and refined but with 120kW can not match the Camry's performance. The well sorted chassis scores points for its good handling and ride with minimal body roll or understeer. SUBARU LIBERTY 4D SEDAN (1993-1994) THE Liberty has a similar level of equipment but less interior space than the Camry. The 2.2-litre, flat-four engine is economical and with 100kW has competitive performance although some people may find the odd engine beat annoying. The styling is looking dated while the ride, particularly on rougher surfaces, is very good. HYUNDAI SONATA 4D SEDAN (1990-2001) THIS Sonata is good value for money in terms of equipment, which includes a driver's airbag, and it has similar interior space to the Camry. With only 102kW, the 3.0-litre V6 engine lacks power and the car does not match the Camry in ride, handling or quality. And it suffers from its cheapo Hyundai image too.
