Nismo: It's all go after the show

NISSAN Australia has answered the call by enthusiasts to make packages from its Nismo high-performance brand more widely available.

The Japanese car-maker chose this month’s Melbourne International Motor Show to display a tricked-up 350Z, resplendent in Nismo badging, colours and performance accessories.

Nissan Australia managing director Shinya Hannya told GoAuto that Nismo accessories would be available through selected Nissan dealers, although at this stage there were no plans to spice up models other than the 350Z.

The Nismo Z features a full aero bodykit, five-spoke 19-inch lightweight alloys shod with extra wide, liquorish-stick Bridgestone Potenza S-03 tyres.

There is also a Nismo Weldina twin sports exhaust with 107mm-wide oval tailpipes.

A high-mounted wing spoiler increases front and rear downforce to provide more high-speed stability.

The standard front bumper has also been replaced with a more deeply cut version with a lower-lip spoiler. An additional louvre in the intake grille enhances engine cooling (and creates a more aggressive look), while the side skirts stabilise the car’s air stream around the tyres at high speeds.

The Nismo effect continues with a high-performance clutch and limited-slip differential.

Inside, there are signature Nismo kickplates, floor mats, gauges and a titanium gear knob.

The car’s patented sports seats have even more bolstering than the standard car’s seats.

Although the car’s existing 221kW/353Nm 3.5-litre V6 remains, word is that Nissan also has a performance chip for the engine. However, emissions requirements could see such an item ruled out for Australia.
