2 Sep 2004

THE first pictures of the new YN2-codenamed Swift hatch have been released on a Suzuki website ahead of its public debut at the Paris motor show later this month.

A development of the 2002 Concept S prototype, the new Swift will replace the current Ignis light car here some time following its Sydney motor show Australian debut in October.

Measuring 3700mm long, 1690mm wide and 1500mm tall, Swift will be produced in Japan and at Suzuki’s upgraded plant in Esztergom, Hungary.

It will be built in both three and five-door guises and initially feature two petrol engines – a 68kW/114Nm 1.3-litre and a 76kW/133Nm 1.5 – plus a 52kW 1.3-litre diesel.

It is believed garden variety Australian Swifts will be powered by the 1.3, while a GTi-badged Swift due in the second half of 2005 will feature the 1.5.
