New models - BMW - 2 Series - Gran CoupeBMW announces 2 Series Gran Coupe pricingAll-new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe priced from $47,990 for entry level 218i11 Feb 2020
BMW Australia has at last revealed the pricing of its new 2 Series Gran Coupe, with the 218i kicking things off from $47,990 plus on-road costs while the range topping M235i xDrive will retail for $69,990.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is in essence a coupe-esque 1 Series sedan designed to go head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz CLA range, and therefore mirrors the current 1 Series line-up, albeit with a $5000 and $6000 premium over the respective hatchbacks.
As such, the 218i wades into battle with the same turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as the 118i, producing the same 103kW of power and 220Nm of torque put to the ground through the front wheels via the same seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It is the same story in the M235i, with it utilising the same 225kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbo unit as in the M135i as well as the same eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Dimensionally, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is 207mm longer than its hatchback cousin and 55kg heavier (118i vs 218i) meaning claimed performance has been blunted a little, with the claimed 0-100km/h times for the sedan pair 0.2 seconds slower than the hatches – 8.7 seconds for the 218i and 4.9 for the M235i.
The flip side of that extra length (and subsequent weight) is an additional 50 litres worth of boot space.
Just like the technical specifications, the standard equipment list reads effectively the same word for word as that of the 1 Series.
On the 218i, standard gear includes M Sport Package, sport seats, cloth/Sensatec upholstery, BMW Individual headliner in Anthracite, 18-inch M Light alloy wheels, Driving Assistant, head-up display, Parking Assistant, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Connected Package Professional with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, split-folding rear seats, LED head, fog and tail-lights and a six-speaker 100W sound system.
Things step up a notch in the M235i which adds M Sport Brakes, M Sport Steering, M rear spoiler, 19-inch M Light alloy wheels, Comfort Access including BMW Digital Key, electric M Sport seats finished in Leather ‘Dakota’ Upholstery, adaptive LED headlights and a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon surround sound system.
BMW Australia has managed to shift 109 2 Series this year ending January across all body styles, 20 less than it did by the same point last year.
