BMW announces all-new Z4 roadster pricing

Three-variant BMW Z4 range heads slightly upstream from $84,900 plus on-roads

21 Jan 2019

BMW Group Australia has revealed local pricing and specification for the all-new third-generation Z4 roadster with prices across the range trending upwards, starting with the sDrive 20i from $84,900 plus on-road costs.

The mid-spec sDrive 30i sits $20,000 upstream at $104,900, while the M Performance-fettled M40i tops the range at $124,900 ahead of its arrival in March.

Each of the three variants have risen slightly in price over the previous-generation line-up, with the 20i up $5000, the 30i increasing $15,000 over the 28i it replaces, and the M40i up $5355 over the previously range-topping 35i.

The 20i and 30i both employ 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engines outputting 145kW/320Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively, while the M40i packs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder punch worth 250kW/500Nm.

All versions drive the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with launch control feature.

The 20i enables a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 6.6 seconds, down to 5.4s in the 30i and 4.5s in the M40i.

Combined fuel consumption stands at 6.5 litres per 100km for both four-cylinder versions, up to 7.4L/100km for the M40i.

The new Z4 comes with a fabric soft-top designed to evoke the look of a 20th century convertible, which can be opened or closed in 10 seconds at speeds of 50km/h, and does not sacrifice any of the Z4’s 281-litre luggage space when stowed.

One solid and three metallic paint colours are offered, with the additional option of a ‘Frozen Grey II’ finish from the BMW Individual collection.

Inside, a 10.25-inch touchscreen display project’s BMW’s latest Operating System 7.0, while a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display provide ample information for drivers on all variants.

Standard equipment on the 20i includes 18-inch light alloys with performance tyres and tyre repair kit, M Sport package, wind deflector, LED headlights, Vernasca leather upholstery in four hues, M leather steering wheel, heated, electrically adjustable M Sport seats, aluminium interior trims, two-zone air conditioning, DAB+ digital radio, 10-speaker sound system, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Connected Package Professional, wireless device charging, and anti-dazzle side and rearview mirrors.

On the safety front, standard kit includes BMW’s Driving Assistant package with autonomous emergency braking (AEB), cruise control with braking function, high-beam assist, reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors.

Stepping up to the 30i adds 19-inch light alloys, Comfort Access package including locking/unlocking through a smartphone, 17-inch M Sport brakes with blue callipers (optional on 20i), adaptive cruise control with stop and go, adaptive M suspension and adaptive LED headlights.

The range-topping M40i includes specific kit such as M Performance engine and suspension tuning, M Sport differential (optional on 30i), lumbar support for driver and front passenger, ambient lighting, and a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system.

Arriving in March, the Z4 will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz SLC, Nissan 370Z and the mechanically related Toyota Supra which arrives later in the year.
