Mercedes-Benz GLC300 4Matic Coupe priced

MERCEDES-BENZ has added the GLC300 4Matic Coupe to its Australian GLC-Class line-up this week, the coupe-styled SUV available from $113,900 plus on-road costs.

Initially available in a single grade, the GLC300 4Matic Coupe starts at $10,530 more than its wagon counterpart and will challenge the likes of the Audi Q5 45TFSI quattro S line (from $94,250 +ORC), BMW X4 xDrive30i (from $106,400 +ORC), Maserati Grecale GT (from $109,500 +ORC), and the Porsche Macan T (from $97,200 +ORC).

The Mercedes-Benz GLC300 4Matic Coupe is powered by the same engine found under the bonnet of its wagon sibling, a 190kW/400Nm twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol with 48-volt mild hybrid (starter/generator) assistance. Drive is to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Slightly larger than its predecessor, the updated GLC300 4Matic Coupe grows 31mm longer and 5mm taller, while the front and rear wheel tracks have increase by six and 23mm respectively. The vehicle’s width remains unaltered at 1890mm. Interestingly the changed dimensions have resulted in improved aerodynamic efficiency, the co-efficient of drag now 0.27Cd, down from 0.30Cd.

The changes also bring about a 45-litre increase in cargo capacity in five-seat mode (545 litres) and a 90-litre increase in two-seat mode (1490 litres). Access remains via an electric tailgate.

Additional equipment to the GLC300 4Matic Coupe sees a head-up display system, powered front seats with heating and position memory, metallic paint, and a panoramic sunroof featured as standard.

The model further differentiates itself from the wagon in offering 20-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels, Night Package exterior garnishing in black, standard sport suspension, and by the deletion of the aluminium roof rails. An AMG Line exterior and body styling highlights also come standard, as does aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs.

Interior highlights of the facelifted GLC300 4Matic Coupe include a premium sound system, multi-function sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, Artico (artificial leather) upholstery, an 11.9-inch portrait-orientation multimedia screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone pairing, a wireless charging pad, dark-tinted and heat-insulating glass, keyless entry and ignition, and a space-saver spare wheel.

Standard safety inclusions across the GLC-Class range include nine airbags, Mercedes-Benz Pre-Safe accident technology, active lane-keeping assist, blind-spot assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, parking assist with 360-degree camera system, and LED headlights with auto high beam.

Year-to-date sales figures provided by the FCAI show the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe and SUV as two of the stronger performers in the Medium SUV over $60K segment with respective sales of 1384 and 2900 units.

The figures see the GLC-Class vie closely with rivals including the Audi Q5 (3521 unit sales to the end of October 2023), BMW X3 (3442 units) and X4 (671 units), and Porsche Macan (2576 units).
