Lexus RXApr 2003

Lexus RX

AUSTRALIA didn’t see the first-generation (1998) RX, which was essentially a 1997-2002 Toyota Camry with extensive revisions to the front-wheel drive platform and a completely new body and interior. The same applied to the Mk2 model that stormed Australia during 2003.It quickly asserted itself as a segment leader, and became Lexus’ most popular vehicle.Again Lexus pilfered the contemporary (’02-’06) Camry platform, but worked extremely hard to eliminate noise, vibration and harshness. The result was one of the quietest and comfortable SUVs for any money, backed by a soft ride and opulent luxury levels in the higher-grade Sports Luxury model – which also included high-tech features such as a reverse camera, electric tailgate door and satellite navigation.Yet even the entry-level Sport included stability control, an armada of airbags, anti-lock brakes, powered front seats and a sunroof. But the RX 300 is no driver’s car, despite possessing a smooth and powerful 172kW/328Nm 3.3-litre VVTi double overhead cam 24-valve V6 powerplant paired to a silky five-speed sequential automatic gearbox.

MDXApr 2003

MDX

MADE in Canada specifically for Honda’s Acura luxury brand and targeting the BMW X5, Honda’s MDX took almost three years to reach Australia. By then it had started to feel a little dated inside, but dynamically the front-wheel drive-based, part-time all-wheel drive SUV four-door station wagon was a cut above most other similarly priced rivals, such as the Lexus RX 330.Power was also a plus, coming on strong in 191kW/345Nm 3.5-litre SOHC 24V VTEC V6 guise and paired to a five-speed automatic gearbox.Technically the Honda included stability control, a variable-torque 4WD system that directed drive to each wheel according to road conditions, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.A single well-equipped model was sold here. It included dual front and front-side airbags, heated and powered front seats, leather upholstery and cruise control, sunroof, wood trim and - from ’04 – a DVD player.A minor facelift arrived in November ’04, adding new trim, head airbags, and a slightly more powerful (195kW) 3.5 V6.

GoAuto Search Words

Search will attempt to find all articles within the system that contain any or all words you are looking for.

You can include words like "and" + "or" for boolean style searching. Some search examples as follows:

  • "Ford v8" - Results will contain the text as it appears in the search "Ford v8".
  • "Ford and v8" - Results will have both "Ford" and "v8" within its contents but may not be sequential as per previous example.
  • "Ford or Holden and v8" - Results found will contain "v8" and also contain either "Ford" or "Holden".

You may also use wildcards represented by an asterisks. For example:

  • "Turbo*" - will find all documents that contain words like "Turbocharged", "Turbo-Diesel".
  • "Ford and v*" - Results will have both "Ford" and any word that has "V", so you may find documents about Volvo that mention Ford.

Please note: Due to the number of articles, searches may take a few moments to respond.
