Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Laser - SR 5-dr hatchFord modelsResearch Ford Security24 Aug 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON A BASIC level of security is provided in the form of an engine immobiliser and power door locks. While the similarly priced GLXi has a power pack that includes (one-stage) remote keyless entry, power windows (including driver's window auto down/up), power exterior mirrors, maplights and illuminated entry with a delayed fade, the SR requires an additional dip into the pocket for such items. The "rolling code" immobiliser is a relatively sophisticated unit that makes it difficult to steal the car using a different or duplicate ignition key to the electromagnetic key provided. If a foreign or duplicate key is detected, the immobiliser will disable the fuel and ignition system. Ignition lock illumination, a luggage compartment lamp and a cargo blind are provided across the Laser hatch range. Did you know?Whenever the key is inserted into the ignition, a transponder in the key issues an ID code to the car if accepted, the immobiliser then issues a random number and both the key and the immobiliser perform calculations on the number. If the answers match, the vehicle fuel and ignition systems are enabledAll car reviewsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chevrolet Chery Citroen Chrysler Dodge Cupra Ferrari DS Ford Fiat FPV Foton GWM Great Wall Holden Haval HSV Honda Hyundai Hummer Isuzu Infiniti Jeep Jaguar Lamborghini Kia LDV Land Rover Lotus Lexus Maserati Mahindra McLaren Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG Mini MG Nissan Mitsubishi Peugeot Opel Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen |
