Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Laser - SR2 5-dr hatchFord modelsResearch Ford Steering20 Jul 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON LIKE all Lasers, the SR2 uses a power-assisted rack and pinion steering system that provides variable assistance according to engine speed. While the previous generation Laser utilised a clamp-style rack mount, the current uses a more rigid bush set-up which Ford claims offers more precise and responsive feedback to driver input. Improved responsiveness and reduced friction were also targeted with the use of a sheetmetal support yolk, as opposed to plastic. A quick-response steering gear ratio of 15.0:1 is used and the turning circle is 10.4 metres. Three turns are required from lock to lock. Did you know? The steering shaft incorporates a declutching device that prevents the steering lock from breaking if significant torque is applied to the steering wheel, the steering lock will rotate freely but not break, allowing the vehicle to be steered in all circumstancesAll car reviewsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chevrolet Chery Citroen Chrysler Dodge Cupra Ferrari DS Ford Fiat FPV Foton GWM Great Wall Holden Haval HSV Honda Hyundai Hummer Isuzu Infiniti Jeep Jaguar Lamborghini Kia LDV Land Rover Lotus Lexus Maserati Mahindra McLaren Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG Mini MG Nissan Mitsubishi Peugeot Opel Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen |
