Super TestCar reviews - Holden - Nova - 5-dr hatchHolden modelsResearch Holden Used Rivals9 May 2003 NISSAN N14 PULSAR 5D HATCHBACK (1991-1993) A WORTHY rival to the Nova with good performance, economy and finish. The 1.5-litre, twin cam, multi-point fuel-injected engine drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed auto transmission. A well balanced car. MAZDA 323 5D HATCHBACK (1989-1994) THE Astina offers a larger capacity engine at 1840cc, fuel- injected with a 16-valve head. It is front-wheel drive with five- speed manual or four-speed auto. Better equipped, with power steering, central locking standard. Well finished and smart. MITSUBISHI CC LANCER 5D HATCHBACK (1992-1996) SOUNDLY engineered, the Lancer has a 1.6-litre, multi-point fuel- injected, 16-valve engine with the usual five-speed manual or four-speed auto driving the front wheels. Radio/cassette is the only creature comfort. FORD KH LASER 5D HATCHBACK (1992-1994) ANOTHER clone, this time of the Mazda 323, but with local Ford engineering and styling input. The 16-valve, 1.6-litre carburettor engine mates to a three-speed auto or five-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels. Power steering - always useful on front-wheel drive - and a radio/cassette are standard.
