Super TestCar reviews - Hyundai - Sonata - GL V6 sedanHyundai modelsStand Out Features21 Jan 2002 A STRONGER body shell with strengthened roof pillars, side sills, rear side frame and boot structure improves passive safety. A driver airbag, plus front seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters have been standard since January, 2001. Front ventilated rotors on the disc braking system are 5mm thicker. A crash unlock feature has been added, in which the doors unlock in an impact to help access to the occupants. All five seats have height-adjustable head restraints and retractable lap-sash belts, and are anti-submarining design to stop passengers sliding under the seatbelt in a frontal crash. The body shell has been strengthened in the pillars, side sills, rear side frame and around the boot to give more crash protection. Three child seat anchor brackets with hinged covers are fitted rather than the one mandated by law. The fuel filter is now mounted and protected inside the fuel tank, integrated with the fuel pump, rather than located outside. ABS anti-lock brakes plus a front passenger airbag can be ordered as an optional extra safety pack.
