Super TestCar reviews - Mazda - MX-5 - convertibleMazda modelsOther OpinionsA refinement of a sequel that replaced an original hit - rarely does this sequence result in a better car, but in this case the MX-5 remains at the top of the affordable sports car heap. The core qualities continue to shine. It's a better, more enduring and ultimately more rewarding package than its closest competitor, Toyota's automatic-only MR2. The king lives. The recent work done to the shock absorbers and suspension has made an almost impeccable handler even better and more fun in the process. The MX-5 rewards drivers prepared to tackle a challenging winding road, although it's not foolproof. The Mazda's six-speed manual is a pleasure to play with and adds to the whole experience.
