Nissan Hyper Punk fourth in EV concept series

Japan Mobility Show concept embodies self-expression, Nissan says of Hyper Punk EV

19 Oct 2023

NISSAN has unveiled the fourth and final concept in its ‘Hyper’ series, with the Hyper Punk being revealed today ahead of the Japan Mobility Show (from October 25).

Nissan’s all-electric concept models are said to demonstrate its future range of “diverse applications”, the concept models shown in the lead-up to the Tokyo show each featuring the word ‘Hyper’ in much the same way Audi did with its recent ‘Sphere’ concepts.

The Nissan Hyper Punk is a concept the brand says is designed for content creators and artists, the vehicle wrapped in a “functional and stylish body style” with an all-electric driveline.

The concept is said to offer “seamless connections between the virtual and physical worlds” and like others in the Hyper series will offer Nissan’s vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity to ensure users can charge their devices from the car, anywhere, anytime.

Inside, the Hyper Punk features origami-styled interior elements that are said to mirror Japanese design, creating an interior space where “digital and art are fused together”.

For example, the onboard cameras can capture the scenery around the car and use AI to covert the images to “manga-styled scenery or graphic patterns according to the owner’s preferences”. The imagery can then be projected onto a three-screen display arranged around the driver, creating what Nissan says is “a space where reality and the world of the metaverse merges”.

As a mobile creative studio, the Nissan Hyper Punk provides seamless internet connectivity and can interlink occupants’ devices and creative equipment, enabling users to access information or create on the go.

Further, with AI and headrest biosensors, the concept model can detect the driver’s mood and automatically select the right music and lighting to “boost the driver’s creativity and energy”.

Back outside, the Hyper Punk offers an array of multifaceted and polygonal surfaces Nissan says will ensure it stands out from the crowd. The head- and tail-lights mimic the same motif.

The silver paint changes with the light to give the panels greater depth, while the “superior aerodynamic performance” of the model is said to be representative of its “bold, powerful style”.

Riding on a broad platform with compact overhangs and massive 23-inch wheels, the Nissan Hyper Punk is said to be a versatile vehicle for both city and off-road driving…

From today, Nissan will display its four EV concept cars – the Hyper Urban, Hyper Adventure, Hyper Tourer and Hyper Punk – across a gigantic 3D billboard at the famous Shinjuku intersection before the models are revealed in the metal at the Japan Mobility Show from October 25.

The biennial Japan Mobility Show will be held in conjunction with the Tokyo Motor Show from October 26 to November 5).
