Nissan showcases future-ready BEV concepts

AS NISSAN prepares for the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month, the manufacturer has this week digitally revealed a series of all-electric concept vehicles it says aims to demonstrate its future range of “diverse aspirations”.

The series of concept models will be revealed one by one in the lead up to the Tokyo show, each featuring the word Hyper – in much the same Audi did with its recent ‘Sphere’ concept models – to “express the heightened excitement they aim to bring”.

Nissan’s first all-electric concept is the Hyper Urban (Urban Sphere, anyone?) the Japanese manufacturer says brings a symbolic character and has customer-tailored features that add “value to unique lifestyles and diverse aspirations”.

The Hyper Urban concept is set to offer styling which “perfectly complements the sophisticated tastes of its target users” who Nissan says are urban- and suburban-based professionals who prioritise environmental sustainability.

Characterised by a sleek and modern aesthetic, the Hyper Urban will be “fully interwoven into the EV ecosystem” offering V2H (vehicle to home) and V2G (vehicle to grid) functionality, an Intelligent Charging Management System Nissan says uses AI technology to “autonomously charge vehicles and power buildings”, as well as regular hardware and software updates aimed at “providing a fresh ownership experience over many years”.

Nissan says the Hyper Urban represents the future design and technological capabilities of its EV offerings, the lime yellow body changing with the light to “draw attention while also blending into the surrounds”.

The front and rear scissor-style doors provide what Nissan calls a “sense of openness and character, while the “sporty” silhouette produces “aerodynamic excellence for increased efficiency”.

Inside, the Hyper Urban is “designed to blend in with urban living spaces” with a décor inspired by “kaleidoscopic triangles”. The instrument panel may be customised to suit the owner’s mood, while the front seats can fold into the rear seats to create a “sofa-like, private relaxing space”.

As Nissan readies itself for the Japan Mobility Show, it will also take a look back at nine decades of innovation, showcasing a range of 90^th anniversary special edition production models.

Featured alongside a series of all-electric concept models, the 90^th anniversary special edition production models will be characterised by copper-accented grille and wing mirror treatments, special aluminium wheels, and unique upholstery finishes.

The 90^th anniversary special edition production models will include Nissan’s Aura, Kicks, Leaf, Sakura, Serena, and X-Trail, vehicles which will feature alongside the EV concept series, the new Ariya, a Formula E race car, and Nismo models including the GT-R Special Edition, Skyline and Z.

The biennial Japan Mobility Show will be held in conjunction with the Tokyo Motor Show from October 26 to November 5.
