First look: All-new Skyline

Nissan launches its 12th-generation Skyline in Japan but it's not on the menu for Oz

1 Dec 2006

NISSAN launched its 12th-generation Skyline in Japan last week, which is lower, wider and sleeker than the previous model and marks the debut of an all-new FR-L platform and a VQ35HR V6 engine developing 235kW and 358Nm.

A 168kW/263Nm 2.5-litre version is also available, with both mated to a five-speed automatic transmission (with adaptive shift control, "synchro-rev" control and a DS sports mode).

Sportier versions are available with a sequential-manual shift model with steering-mounted gearshift paddles, along with a "world-first" four-wheel active steering system that adjusts the steering angles of the front and rear wheels in accordance with driving speeds and steering operation.

Headroom and rear-seat space is also claimed to be "best in class".

Nissan Australia told GoAuto this week that the car is not under consideration for release here, despite a resurgent medium-car sector.
