It employs the standard front-drive format with an east-west location in the engine bay and a front-mounted radiator with an electric cooling fan. The engine uses a distributorless system with separate coils for each cylinder. The SRi's engine develops 108kW of power at 5800rpm and 203Nm of torque at 4000rpm using premium unleaded fuel. It achieves fuel consumption figures of 9.0L/100km on the city cycle and 5.8L/100km on the highway with manual transmission, and 9.0L/100km on the city cycle and 5.6L/100km on the highway cycle with automatic transmission. The Astra SRi is also tuned to run on standard unleaded fuel.
