Holden claims an external shift gate reduces transmission noise and makes for more precise gear selection by de-coupling the gearshift linkage from the driveline. The automatic is electronically controlled and has a neutral idle feature that selects neutral when the car is stationary and the brake pedal is applied. The system, which automatically shifts back into gear when the brake pedal is released, is designed to provide smoother and quieter idling and improved fuel economy.
