Super TestCar reviews - Holden - Barina - SRi 3-dr hatchHolden modelsTransmission14 Dec 2001 BARINA SRi has just the one transmission on offer, the same close-ratio five-speed manual used on other models across the range. Gear ratios are unaltered, however Holden engineers did strengthen the gearbox to cope with the increased power and torque from the 1.8-litre engine. Like its fellow Barinas, the SRi gearbox has a maintenance-free hydraulically operated clutch which Holden claims suppresses noise and vibration and requires less operating effort. Additional refinement is provided by an external shift gate, which de-couples the gearshift linkage from the driveline, reduces transmission noise and makes for more precise gear selection.
