Super TestCar reviews - Mercedes-Benz - CLK-class - CLK430 Elegance coupeMercedes-Benz modelsResearch Mercedes-Benz Transmission23 Oct 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON A FIVE-SPEED automatic transmission is the sole transmission available in the CLK 430. It features adaptive shift control, a lock-up torque converter and one-touch sequential manual gear selection. Once in position D, the driver can change gears manually by moving the gear lever left (for a downchange) or right (upchange). If the driver moves the selector lever to the left for longer, the driving range changes to the gear selected by the automatic transmission. Similarly, the auto will override manual gear selections if it deems the resultant revs to high and will downshift if the car comes to a halt.
