MITSUBISHI'S latest Pajero, the NM series, is no quick, slap-up, cosmetic job. What the company has done is re-think what a large 4WD should really be and basically started with the proverbial clean sheet of paper. Apart from its polarising looks, it brings new levels of road-going ability, comfort and safety into the 4WD wagon class. Lower, wider and longer than before, it looks purposeful on the road as well as offering handier interior dimensions.

Mitsubishi Pajero NL
Released: August 1997
Ended: June 2000
Family Tree: PajeroThe Pajero, like other large 4WDs, had a long model life, gaining extra knick-knacks and styling changes along the way. Sitting just below the heavy-hitting Patrols and LandCruisers, the Pajero was possibly the first big 4WD to achieve acceptance as a regular station wagon substitute.
