Drawing closer links with its famous GTI stablemate, the GTD succeeds the Mk5 Golf GT Sport TDI but remains a unique model in the small-car segment. On sale now at a $39,290 starting price for the six-speed manual, with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox with shift paddles adding $2500, the Golf GTD is cheaper than expected, slotting underneath the GTI five-door, which is priced from $40,490 - but not the Golf GTI three-door ($38,990).
