A bag designed to inflate instantly in the event of a collision to prevent occupants from hitting the dashboard, steering wheel or other parts of the vehicle.

There are many different locations for airbags: front airbags come out of the steering wheel and dash; side airbags come out of the doors or even seats; curtain (window) airbags are generally located in the roof.

When buying a car, the more airbags the better.
