GoAuto glossaryPowerThe measure of the strength of an engine.
Generally, the faster an engine spins, the more power it develops. Just as a racehorse or athlete achieves maximum performance when their legs are running flat out, a car engine achieves its maximum power when it is spinning at maximum revs. However, torque (see separate listing) is also important for overall performance. Power (see also ‘Horsepower’) is expressed in kiloWatts (kW). |
