Dual-clutch Transmission

An automatic gearbox with two rather than one clutch to reduce gearshift times and improve fuel economy.

For example, one clutch works a shaft that engages first, third and fifth gears while the second does the shaft for second, fourth and fifth gears.

The electronics predict what gear is required next so it can be pre-selected and engaged almost instantly when required – for example; you are accelerating hard in second gear, so third gear is already pre-selected and can be almost instantly engaged as soon as you (in manual mode) or the gearbox (in auto mode) gives the signal.
