The VS was Holden's response to the drivetrain refinement woes the VR suffered. And it just managed to edge out the popular EF Falcon too. The 3.8 V6 was completely overhauled, for greater efficiency, economy, power and noise reduction. Plus the four-speed auto was finally updated to an electronic unit. Improved specifications, equipment and trim topped off a car that is hard to distinguish from the VR at first glance, but is well worth seeking out for the gains it made over it. Just one more thing: this is all relative to previous Commodores and Falcons of the day. Compared to the 1996 TE Magna, the VS looks, drives and feels like its from another, earlier era...
