Super TestCar reviews - Holden - Jackaroo - SE TDi 5-dr wagonHolden modelsResearch Holden Engine9 Feb 2001 By P TIBBLES THE Jackaroo's 3.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel bristles with technology. It is an intercooled turbo with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshafts and a common rail, high pressure electronic fuel-injection system with "drive by the wire" throttle control. Long skirt pistons, linerless cylinder block and an aluminium head and oil pan are also incorporated. Twin counter balance shaft dampers for the flywheel and crank pulley combine with a rigid cylinder block and oil pan to minimise noise and vibration. The camshafts are fitted with scissor gears to reduce backlash noise and provide more positive timing engagement. The single serpentine notched timing belt with self-tensioner and simplified layout combines quietness with reliability and easy servicing. The engine meets strict Euro Two emissions standards.
