Future models - Volkswagen - Golf - GTVolkwagen to launch twin-turbo Golf GTVolkswagen announces a twin-turbo Golf dubbed GT to be positioned below the GTI6 Sep 2005 By TERRY MARTIN VOLKSWAGEN will introduce what it claims is the world’s first twin-turbocharged FSI (direct injection) engine at the Frankfurt motor show next week. Set to debut in a new Golf GT model variant, the new FSI twin-turbo (dubbed "Twincharger") is applied to a 1.4-litre engine able to produce 125kW of power and torque of 240Nm between 1750rpm and 4500rpm. VW argues the main benefit is to lower fuel consumption and engine displacement, using an exhaust turbocharger with a compressor to ensure there is no corresponding loss in performance. Average consumption is a claimed 7.2L/100km, while 100km/h is reached from rest in 7.9 seconds. VW says the Golf GT will be positioned below the Golf GTI in Europe. Next year, the 1.4 FSI twin-turbo engine will be combined with VW’s direct-shift gearbox. A 103kW/220Nm iteration will also be introduced.
