Black back in fashion for limited-edition Mitsubishi Triton Blackline

19 Mar 2018

MITSUBISHI Motors Australia Limited has ushered in a special-edition version of its Triton dual-cab pick-up, dubbed Blackline, with several black cosmetic enhancements highlighting the upgrades.

Priced from $43,390 in manual form or $45,990 for the automatic (before on-road costs), the Blackline is based on the GLS grade that sits second from the top in the Triton range.

The manual requires a $1890 premium while the automatic commands a $1990 charge for the step up to the Blackline, but buyers are compensated with an extended standard equipment list.

Black finishes have been applied to the front mesh grille, exterior doorhandles, fender flares, side steps, rear step bumper and sports bar, while a ‘Blackline’ decal adorns the doors.

Other upgrades include keyless entry and start, a rear differential lock, a tub liner and carpet mats.

The Blackline is exclusively available with three premium paint colours – Black, Starlight and Titanium.

These features are on top of the 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, reversing camera, LED daytime running lights, power-folding side mirrors and rear privacy glass found in the GLS grade.

As per all other diesel Triton variants, the Blackline is motivated by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 133kW of power at 3500rpm and 430Nm of torque at 2500rpm.

Drive is sent to the ground via a four-wheel-drive system and either a six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.

Claimed fuel consumption on the combined cycle test is 7.2 litres per 100 kilometres for the manual 7.6L/100km for the automatic, while carbon dioxide emissions have been tested at 191 grams per km and 201g/km respectively.

Overall Triton sales improved last year, with 23,605 examples sold to the end of 2017, representing a 7.8 per cent increase over the 21,897 deliveries made in 2016.

This effort placed the Mitsubishi third in the overall pick-up segment last year, trailing the Toyota HiLux (47,093), Ford Ranger (42,728) but ahead of the Holden Colorado (21,579), Nissan Navara (16,532) and Mazda BT-50 (14,119).
