Details firm on new Palisade

HYUNDAI has today announced details of its forthcoming MY23 Palisade large SUV, a model it says is safer, smarter and more luxurious than the outgoing model.

The revised Palisade, which was unveiled at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, will pair what Hyundai says is a “freshened interior and exterior” design with “segment leading safety, technology and convenience features”.

In doing so, the Palisade has a chance of addressing the model’s recent disappointing four-star ANCAP safety rating.

Scheduled to launch locally in August, the facelifted Palisade will offer inclusions such as a 12.3-inch instrument panel and 12.3-inch central touchscreen array, a centre airbag, digital rear-view mirror and the recently-announced Bluelink connected car services.

Elite and Highlander grades will be offered locally – meaning the self-titled entry model will be omitted from the line-up – with carryover 3.8-litre V6 petrol and 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations respectively.

Both driveline offerings are paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Palisade grows slightly in length for 2023, the body now 4995mm long, up 15mm from the current model. All other dimensions are unchanged.

Stylistically, the updated Hyundai Palisade is differentiated by a new daytime running light signature, vertically stacked LED Headlights, concealed turn signals, new ‘parametric shield’ grille design and a new-look skid plate.

New 20-inch alloy wheel designs, body coloured cladding and skirting are also offered, a full width LED high-mounted brake light, rear skid plate, square exhaust outlets and separated taillights rounding out the changes.

Internally, the Palisade is upholstered in Nappa leather and suede combination trim, and includes points of difference such as slim, horizontally set ventilation outlets, a four-spoke steering wheel, heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats (on eight-seat variants), one-touch folding second-row seats, two-way lumbar support, tri-zone climate control, voice recognition and control, a dual sunroof, 15-watt inductive charging pad, USB-C charging ports, wing-out second-row head restraints, and a stainless steel scuff plate across the lower edge of the cargo bay aperture.

Palisade Elite grades will feature black leather throughout the cabin and seven paint colours including Creamy White, Shimmering Silver, Graphite Grey, Abyss Black, Sierra Burgundy, Moonlight Blue and Robust Emerald.

Highlander variants are to be available with two-tone Warm Grey, Dark Khaki or Black Nappa leather inside with additional body hues including Gaia Brown and Olivine Grey.

On the critically important safety front, the MY23 Palisade will now be offered with remote smart parking, a centre airbag, safe exit assist, reverse parking collision avoidance assist, reversing guide light, intelligent speed limit assist, forward collision avoidance assist with junction turning assist and multi-collision braking, addressing several of the key concerns flagged by ANCAP in its most recent round of testing.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia says further details on the Palisade Elite and Highlander – including price – will be revealed closer to the model’s local launch.

The current Palisade range is priced from $60,000 plus on-road costs with Elite and Highlander variants beginning at $62,200 and $71,700 plus ORCs respectively.
