Hyundai launched a facelifted version of its Sonata mid-size sedan in late 2017, offering a streamlined range that consisted of a base Active and flagship Premium following the deletion of the mid-range Elite.
The engines were mostly unchanged from the pre-facelift model, with the Active using a 138kW/241Nm 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six-speed automatic and an 8.3L/100km fuel use figure, while the Premium used a 180kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-pot with an eight-speed auto and fuel use of 8.5L/100km.
Changes in the cabin included a new three-spoke steering wheel (flat-bottomed in Premium) with paddle shifters, and rearranged switchgear that added a gloss-black finish.
The MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension with selective dampers benefited from Australian-specific tuning for the facelift.
Hyundai included additional standard gear over the previous Sonata, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen display incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
