Super TestCar reviews - Holden - Astra - City 3-dr hatchHolden modelsSuspension24 Aug 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON THE Lotus-tweaked Astra suspension comprises MacPherson struts at the front axle and a torsion beam with twin trailing arms at the rear. Lower suspension A-arms (or "wishbones") on the front suspension pivot on two rubber bushings attached to the rigid chassis subframe, which in turn is joined to the body via six rubber-metal bushes to provide "double isolation" from tyre noise. A stabiliser bar is also used at the front, while at the rear the 90mm diameter U-profile torsion beam provides an anti-roll function. It is a compact design that maximises room in the luggage compartment. Did you know? The number of rear-end components was reduced from 21 to three in the current-generation Astra, seam welding was reduced by 83 per cent and spots welds were entirely eliminatedAll car reviewsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chevrolet Chery Citroen Chrysler Dodge Cupra Ferrari DS Ford Fiat FPV Foton GWM Great Wall Holden Haval HSV Honda Hyundai Hummer Isuzu Infiniti Jeep Jaguar Lamborghini Kia LDV Land Rover Lotus Lexus Maserati Mahindra McLaren Mazda Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG Mini MG Nissan Mitsubishi Peugeot Opel Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen |
