Super TestCar reviews - Holden - Astra - City 3-dr hatchHolden modelsEngine24 Aug 2001 By BRUCE NEWTON LIKE its five-door and sedan counterparts, the Astra three-door is powered by a 1.8-litre twin-cam four-cylinder engine that develops 90kW at 5600rpm and 165Nm at 3600rpm. The engine features a variable intake manifold designed to maximise power across the rev range. Independent testing has shown the manual version will reach 100km/h from standstill in about 11 seconds, with the automatic version approximately 1sec in arrears. Official dyno-based fuel economy figures for both variants point to 7.8-8.0L/100km across the city cycle and 5.6L/100km on the highway. It runs on normal unleaded but will benefit from the use of premium unleaded fuel.
